World Water Day 2015

According to the official site of UN-water, the World Water Day is marked on the 22nd of March every year. It’s a day to celebrate water and to make a difference for the members of the global population who suffer from water related problems. It’s a day to prepare for how to manage water in the future.  In 2015, the theme for World Water Day is ‘Water and Sustainable Development’. It’s about how water is linked to all areas we need to consider to create the future we want.


Water is at the core of sustainable development. Water resources, and the range of services they provide, underpin poverty reduction, economic growth and environmental sustainability. Water contributes to improvements in social well-being and inclusive growth, affecting the livelihoods of billions.

Accordingly, TriNex-Tempus- Alexandria University has participated in an event that had been held at the Faculty of Engineering, Alexandria University in the week starting from Sunday, 22nd of March to Thursday, 26th of March. The Event comprised an awareness campaign about the importance of water and its impact on sustainable energy and food resources sustainability highlighting the importance of Desalination technologies and their potential prospective. A poster has been displayed about the project objectives and activities.

On the 26th of March a closing event has been held, with participation of Prof. Hossam Moghazy, the minister of Irrigation and Water Resources, Dr. Soad El-Kholy, the vice-governor of Alexandria, Prof. Sedik Abdel-Salam, the vice-president of Alexandria University for Post Graduate studies and Research and other valued participants from University staff Members, decision makers and stakeholders. During the seminar, there has been very interesting presentations and talks, as long as a fruitful discussion.

Prof. A. Konsowa has given a talk about TriNex project and how it would affect the sustainable development in Egypt. Besides, a channel has been opened with the ministry of Irrigation and water Resources, in regard of the possibility of implementing some pilot projects.
